Martha Jane Sanford

Martha Jane Sanford, age 83, of Fairview, NC, passed away on Friday, June 7, 2023 at Fleshers Fairview Healthcare Center.

Martha was born on June 20, 1940, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Hawley Seager Sanford and Alice Katherine Brown. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degrees from Wayne State University and UNC Asheville and a Master’s degree from University of Iowa.  She worked many years as a social worker in Iowa, Washington, and North Carolina.

Martha was an artist and a gardener. After retirement, she enjoyed working with children in preschool and in private care settings.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her two sons, Michael MacMillan and his wife, Leigh, of Nashville, TN and Peter MacMillan and his wife Nancy Chaney, of Seattle, WA; a brother, Keith Brown, of Lathrup Village, MI; a sister, Gail Wylie, of West Topsham, VT; and three grandsons, Cade and Rhys MacMillan, both of Nashville, TN, and Barrett MacMillan, of Seattle, WA.
