Mary Alice Goodridge, age 97, of Black Mountain, NC, passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at Givens Highland Farms in Black Mountain.
Mary Alice was born on February 14, 1927, in Newfane, NY, to the late Lyman A. Goodridge and Alice Tice Goodridge. She graduated with her bachelor's degree from Taylor University and her master’s from Northwestern University. Her career took her into a life of working for Providence Bible College as an accompanist for the traveling quartet and a Piano Instructor for Moody Bible Institute. She was a pianist for receptions, parties, and social events. She spent many years as a piano instructor for all ages. Some years were spent as a Music Therapist. Ridgecrest Baptist was blessed to have her as their pianist.
In addition to her parents, Mary Alice was preceded in death by her brother, Franklin Goodridge; sister, Christine Goodling; brother-in-law, Robert L. Goodling; sister-in-law, Edna Goodridge; and niece. Those left behind to cherish her memory are three nephews, five nieces, and their children.
Mary Alice was a good neighbor to her Woodlands Community family. She was a woman of strong faith who faithfully prayed for her family and friends. She was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church. She was a faithful friend and was known to always be smiling. She loved to travel and enjoyed adventures such as rafting down the Colorado River and going on a Windjammer Cruise. She also enjoyed bicycling, reading, and studying the Bible.
The family would like to give a special thank you to her Black Mountain friends Kathryn Hilliard, Karen Boyd, and Audrey Bryant and to Fridl Sullivan, a long-time friend now living in Florida. They had many adventures together. Also,, a thank you to the staff at Givens Highland Farms for their loving care for Mary Alice.
A date for a memorial service is currently undecided. The burial will take place in Wrights Corner, NY.
