Mary Alice Jones

Mary Alice Jones, 86, of Asheville, NC, passed away on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at her son’s home with her family by her side. Born October 31, 1939, in Yancey County, NC, she was a daughter of the late Granville and Sarah Clawson.

She retired in 1984 from Oakley Elementary School, where she worked in the cafeteria for years. Of her many enjoyments in life, tending to her flower garden, sewing, and crocheting were among her favorites. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them as much as possible.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her spouse, Marvin Jones; son, Michael Jones Sr.; Grandson, Mark Jones; siblings, Lona Gertrude, William Leroy, Rebecca Maude, Frank, Von Ray, Jack, Edna Jane, John, and Ella Mae.  Surviving are her children, Marlene Jones of Glen Alpine, NC, Bobby Jones and his spouse, Donna, of Etowah, NC, and Gary Jones of Etowah, NC; sister, Rosetta Miller and her spouse, Bill of Foley, Al; grandchildren, Jesse Wilson, Brandon Worley, Burnos Jones, Kristy Jones, Michael Jones, and Jeremy Jones; and great-grandchildren, Joseph Jones, Noah Jones, Xander Cruey; Aubree Jones, and William Jones.

 A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 7, 2026, in the chapel of Penland Family Funeral Home, with the family receiving friends an hour prior to the service. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Russ Higgins Cemetery in Weaverville, NC.
