Max Deon Garner Sr., 89, of Fletcher, NC passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at Care Partners Solace Center in Asheville, NC. Born January 5, 1935 in Asheboro, NC he was a son of the late Clarence and Alice Garner. Also preceded in death by 4 siblings and his grandson Jonathan Chase Williams. He attended Holmes Bible College in Greenville, SC, and was a member of The Rock Church. Max proudly served in the U.S. Navy. He served as a pastor for over 60 years, while also evangelizing. In 1986 he went to the mission field in the Philippines where he built a Bible School. One of his favorite pastimes was writing as he authored 3 books.
Surviving are his loving spouse of 67 years, Rebecca Rose Davis Garner; children, Max Deon Garner Jr. of Jackson, TN, Sharon Rose Williams and her spouse, Brad, of Jacksonville, FL, and Victoria Ann Garner of Fletcher, NC; siblings, Martisha Peters and her spouse, Rick, of Lumberton, NC, and Rodney Garner and his spouse, Donna, of Burgaw, NC; and grandchildren, Lindsey Young and her spouse, Jeremy, of Jackson, TN, Justin Garner and his spouse, Kelly, of Murfreesboro, TN, Ashley Williams and Bailey Williams both of Jacksonville, FL., as well as 4 great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 6 PM on Thursday, September 19, 2024 at The Rock Church, 273 Monte Vista Road, Candler, NC 28715 with Rev. Chuck Waldrup officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service. His final resting place will be at the Western Carolina State Veteran’s Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC
