Nancy Edith (Hutchins) Bartlett

Nancy Edith Hutchins Bartlett, age 82, of Black Mountain, NC, passed away on Monday, November 29, 2021, at Mountain Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center in Black Mountain.

Nancy was born on May 12, 1939,  in Buncombe County, NC to the late William Lee Hutchins and Edith Wessie Lyda Hutchins. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Black Mountain and was retired from Montreat College where she worked as a Periodical Librarian. After her retirement, Nancy continued to work a little bit, and delivered Asheville Citizen Times newspapers and was a Nursing Assistant at Givens Highland Farms.

Nancy was a very smart, intelligent, and stubborn lady who would set her mind to something and make sure it got done. She loved to garden and had a green thumb. Her yard always looked its best and was immaculate. She wasn’t known for her love of cooking, but she made an awesome pumpkin pie that everyone loved to eat. Most of all, Nancy loved her family and adored spending time with her grandchildren. She will be deeply missed.

In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lewis Bartlett; and two sisters, Betty Hutchins Bartlett, and Francis Creasmon.

Those left behind to cherish her memory are her daughter, Regina “Gigi” (Sam) Buckner of Black Mountain; her son, Richard Bartlett of Swannanoa; two brothers, Robert (Wanda) Hutchins of Swannanoa and Bill (Linda) Hutchins of Black Mountain; a sister, Elaine (Ronnie) Pressley of Black Mountain; three granddaughters, Nicky Bartlett of Marion, Samantha Buckner and Lauren (Derek) Haney, both of Black Mountain; four great-grandsons, Tyson and Knox Bartlett of Marion and Braxton and Bryson Haney of Black Mountain.

A Celebration of Nancy’s Life will be held on Sunday, December 5, 2021, at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Black Mountain officiated by Pastors David Phillips and Randy Stone.
