Nell (Blazer) Metcalf

Lottie “Nell” Blazer Metcalf, age 85, of Asheville, NC, passed away on Tuesday, April 27, 2023, in Canton, NC.

Nell was born on September 18, 1937 in Buncombe County, NC to the late Grover Cleveland Blazer and Ruth Queen Blazer.

She worked in accounting as a bookkeeper for the Ivey’s Department Store and had also been the manager of The Gap clothing store before she retired. Nell was a member of New Bridge Baptist Church and was a member of the choir. She loved her church and her church family so much.

Nell was a wonderful wife and mother who loved her family dearly. She was a quiet, reserved, and humble lady but her personality would shine when she was with her close friends and family. She enjoyed working in her flower garden and reading.

In addition to her parents, Nell was preceded in death by her husband, Norman; a son-in-law, Randy Burgess; and three brothers, Dave, Bob, and Paul “Spunk” Blazer.

Those left behind to forever cherish her memory are her beloved daughter, Vicki Metcalf Burgess of Asheville; a brother, Jack Blazer of Candler, NC; two sisters, Jenny (Jack) Penley of Leicester, NC and Penny Best of Candler, NC; and several nieces and nephews.

A joint Celebration of Life for Nell and Norman Metcalf will be held on Friday, June 2, 2023 at 11:00 AM at New Bridge Baptist Church, 199 Elkwood Ave., Asheville, NC 28804, conducted by Reverends Clark Henderson and Danny Gasperson.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the church.
