Pamela Joan Herbert

Pamela Joan Herbert, age 80, of Saint Petersburg, Florida, passed away on November 13, 2025, at the VA Medical Center in Asheville, North Carolina.

Born on December 18, 1944, Pamela was the daughter of the late Frank Herbert, Jr. and Carmela Potignano Herbert. Pam proudly served her country as a Sergeant in the United States Air Force. She worked as a Dental Hygienist in the main Dental Clinic at Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi, including time spent in service during the Vietnam War. Following her military career, Pamela pursued higher education at the University of North Carolina at Asheville, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.

Pamela was a woman of faith and attended Pasadena Baptist Church. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures—walking along the beach, collecting seashells, watching sunsets, fishing, swimming, and expressing her creativity through watercolor painting.

In addition to her parents, Pamela was preceded in death by her husband, Burnos Sherlin, in 1995. She is survived by her siblings: Linda Austin and husband Clayton of Asheville, NC; Frank Herbert III of Hilton Head, SC; Jack Herbert of Asheville, NC; and Deborah J. Herbert of Asheville, NC. She is also lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews: Wendy Herbert Mazula of Atlanta, GA; Melinda Dubose Frank of Charlotte, NC; Barrie Dubose of Asheville, NC; Chrissy Dubose Ball of Charlotte, NC; Ashley Graham Boulos of Charlotte, NC; Matthew Austin of Shreveport, LA; David Johnson of Denver, CO; and Michael Johnson of Wilmington, NC.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 19, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, 962 Old US Hwy 70, Black Mountain, NC, with Pastor Allen Rash officiating.
