Phillip Henson, 73, of Swannanoa, died Tuesday, October 10, 2023, after a valiant battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family. His passing has ushered him into the glorious presence of the Lord.
Phillip was born on April 30, 1950, to William and Louise Henson in Waynesville, NC. After graduating from Lee Edwards High School, Phillip began his career at Bell South, where he served the local community for close to four decades. After his retirement, Phillip served as a volunteer for the Meals on Wheels program.
Phillip and his devoted wife of 56 years, Diane, raised three children in Swannanoa. He worked hard to make sure his family was taken care of and felt cherished every day. Phillip delighted in spending time with his loved ones and had a gift for making others laugh. He was an active, long-time member and deacon of Bee Tree Christian Church.
Phillip was preceded in death by his father, William Henson, and his mother, Louise Henson. He is survived by his wife, Diane Henson; daughter, Cindy Penland and husband Anthony of Swannanoa; son, Rob Henson, of Swannanoa; son, Brian Henson and wife Jennifer of Atlanta; six grandchildren, Zac Lunsford, Kaitlin Gonzalez (Jonathan), Jarrod Penland (Cassidy), Mallory Penland, Isabelle Henson, and Ivey-Grace Henson; three great grandchildren, Aniyah, Raelynn, and Adrian Gonzalez; siblings, Phyllis Ballard (David), Karol Black (Earl), Terry Henson (Stephanie), and Gary Henson; and many special nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday, October 13, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Valley Hope Church, 115 Rockdale Rd., Swannanoa, NC.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Valley Hope Church, conducted by Pastor Mike Siemens and Pastor Jim Dykes. Burial will follow the service at Pisgah View Memorial Park, 1529 Smokey Park HWY., Candler, NC.
