Richard Carl, age 82, of Asheville, NC, passed away on Sunday September 3, 2023 at the Charles George Veterans Administration Hospital in Asheville, NC.
Richard was born on September 11, 1940, in Los Angeles, California, to the late Charles Carl and Gladys Hart Carl. He was a pastor and a missionary before he retired and his last missionary work was with Outreach to Asia Nationals in Winchester, VA.
Richard served his country proudly in the United States Navy from 1958 to 1964. He was a real people person and he loved helping others and serving the Lord. He enjoyed traveling to lots of different places with his wife and getting to know others and spreading the word about his Lord and Savior. He had a good sense of humor and enjoyed telling cute stories from his time in the ministry that would make you smile. He also enjoyed watching old timey movies every now and then for fun.
He was a wonderful husband and friend and will be deeply missed by his wife and extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his three sisters, Phyllis Cameron, Joyce Failing, and Sandy Williams; two brothers, Charles and Ted Carl; and a brother-in-law, Tom Pierce.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 56 years, Judi Buller Carl; a sister, Judi Carwile and her husband Jerry of California; two sister-in-law’s, Sandi Ott and her husband Roy of Washington, and Carole Pierce of South Dakota; two brother-in-law’s, Rob Buller and his wife Gail and Hank Verstraete and his wife Pauline, both of California; 31 nieces and nephews; and a host of great nieces and nephews.
A Graveside service with full military honors will be held on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at 2:00 PM at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, 962 Old US Hwy 70, Black Mountain, NC conducted by Pastor Lonnie Ray.
Due to allergies, the family respectfully requests that no flowers be sent, but plants and dish gardens are welcomed.
