Robert Dewey Taylor, age 82, of Skyland, NC, passed away on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at Stone Creek Health and Rehabilitation in Asheville. He was born on December 13, 1938 in Buncombe County to the late Walter Dewey Taylor and Myrtle Harris Taylor. Robert proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp. He worked for Gerber and was a security guard at Milko until his retirement. He was known as "Skip" by the faculty and students at Enka High School as he was their security guard. Robert was a member of and a greeter for Biltmore Church of Arden. He was the most kind, loving and sweetest man you ever met. Robert was a very hard and devoted worker and worked for over 60 years of his life. He also enjoyed traveling, vacations, bowling and fishing.
Along with his parents, Robert was also preceded in death by his first wife, Janet Faye Young Taylor; his second wife, Norma Jean Faulkner Taylor; a brother, Billy Taylor; and his sisters, Martha Blankenship and Mary Sue Davis.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his daughter, Debbie Allison (Jeff) of Hendersonville; his sons, Ted Taylor (Debbie) of Candler, Tim Taylor (Debbie) of Swannanoa, Tony Taylor (Kim) of Swannanoa, Jeff Taylor of Swannanoa, and Anthony "Tony" Holland (Laura) of Asheville; his brother, James Taylor (Joanna) of Hanover, MD; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 2pm, Wednesday, May 26, 2021 at Swannanoa Valley Independent Missionary Baptist Church, 220 Lytle Cove Road, Swannanoa, NC 28778. The Rev. David Dimsdale and Rev. Randy Young will be officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the church an hour prior to the service at 1pm. Burial will follow at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory, 901 Aiken Road, Asheville, NC 28804. Penland Family Funeral Home is honored to be caring for the Taylor Family and assisting them with arrangements.
