Ronald Dennis Howie, age 72, of Asheville, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 21, 2021 at Mission Hospital. He was born on February 5, 1949 in Buncombe County, NC to the late William Howie, Sr. and Beulah Lunsford Howie. Ron retired from working at Wood Stoves of Asheville as a service technician and was a member of God's Way Baptist Church in Swannanoa. He was a very special man in many ways who made many sacrifices for others so that they might live better lives. Ron truly cared about people. He was a man of faith and loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He also loved his family dearly and enjoyed spending time with them. They were his whole life. Ron was always there to help anyone in need. He was also a people person and was very engaging. Ron was a great story teller and quite the jokester with a great sense of humor.
Along with his parents, Ron was also preceded in death by his brother, William Howie, Jr. Those left behind to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 52 years, Alma Shuford Howie; his sons, Matthew Brent Howie of Black Mountain and Mark Brandon Howie of Asheville; his daughter, Kristen Rickard and her husband, Larry of Swannanoa; his sisters, Wyona Bridges of Swannanoa and Barbara Blankenship of Burnsville; his grandchildren, Christian Rickard and Peyton Rickard, both of Swannanoa and Brooke and Claire Howie, both of Black Mountain; and many other relatives who he loved dearly.
A funeral service will be held at 3pm, Saturday, March 27, 2021 at Bee Tree Missionary Baptist Church in Swannanoa with the Rev. James Lamb officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 2pm-3pm at the church. Burial will take place in the church cemetery following the service. Penland Family Funeral Home is honored to be caring for the Howie Family.
