Rosa (Koenig) Rosenfeld

Rosa “Oma” Koenig Rosenfeld, 89, of Asheville passed away peacefully on April 6, 2025 at her home with her family by her side. 

Born March 26, 1936 in March, Germany, she was a daughter of the late Peter and Rosa Hagengruber Koenig. She married the love of her life, Hermann Rosenfeld, on April 9, 1955. They travelled the world together, as he served in the U.S. Armed Forces, and had many exciting experiences together. Finally settling in Asheville, NC, she found employment as a seamstress with Kellwood Company. She always said that she rooted herself in Asheville with her plants, as gardening was one of her favourite hobbies. She enjoyed dancing with Hermann and spending time with her family. 

In addition to her parents and spouse, she is preceded in death by a daughter, Sonja M. Reavis; brother, Peter Koenig, Michael Koenig, and Joseph Koenig; sisters, Ida Mueller and Maria Wittenzeller. Surviving are her daughter, Rosa Margarethe Sanders (George); grandchildren, Daniel A. Sanders (Dawn), Jennifer R. Stephens, and Sonja N. Jackson (Matthew); great-grandchildren, Ryus A. Cody, Samantha A. Smith, Kaitlin R. Jackson, Cameron L. Stephens, and Nolan P. Jackson.

 A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, April 10, 2025 in the chapel of Penland Family Funeral Home in Swannanoa with the family receiving friends an hour and a half prior. She will be laid to rest with her husband on Friday, April 11, 2025 at noon at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
