Rosalie (Rogers) Plemmons

            Dora Rosalie Rogers Plemmons, age 83, of Leicester, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Monday, May 3, 2021. A native of Buncombe County, she was born on January 15, 1938 to the late Roy Rogers and Drama Martin Rogers and grew up in Sandy Mush. Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by sisters, Virginia Blenn, Janet Ross, and Joan McElreath; and a brother, Tommy Rogers.

            Those left behind to cherish her memory is her husband of 52 years, Jerry Plemmons of Leicester; daughter, Lori Alexander and husband Bruce of Asheville; son, Tommy Plemmons of Wilmington; two grandchildren, Maggie and Jake Alexander both of Asheville; two step-granddaughters, Julia Alexander of Los Angeles, CA and Annie Alexander of Raleigh; a sister, Dorothy Worley of Asheville and several nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.

            Rosalie was a 1955 graduate of Leicester High School where she was a star basketball player, a member of the student council and the square dancing team. She went on to graduate from Western Carolina University with a degree in Education. She taught school in Hollywood, FL for a year before returning to Buncombe County where she continued teaching before becoming a homemaker after her children were born. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother and she will be missed greatly by her family. Rosalie was a member of Bell United Methodist Church. She will be remembered for her fiery spirit, passion for politics, love of sports, especially basketball, and the UNC Tarheels and the color blue.

            The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 15, 2021 from 2pm-3pm followed by a memorial service in the chapel of Penland Family Funeral Home at 125 South Avenue, Swannanoa, NC 28778. Rev. Sandy Devoid will be officiating. Rosalie will be laid to rest in the cemetery of Big Sandy United Methodist Church at 393 Sandy Mush Road, Leicester, NC 28748 with the rest of her family.

            The family would like to thank the staff at Four Seasons for the care she received from them and also a special thanks to Brittany Rice for the love, care and friendship she provided her in her last days.
