Ruth Elaine (Garrison) Janes

                Ruth Elaine Garrison Janes, age 95, of Black Mountain, NC, passed away on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at Givens Highland Farms Healthcare Center in Black Mountain. She was born on June 20, 1926, in the Sugar Creek community of Barnardsville, NC, to the late Thomas Garrison and Alma Medler Garrison.

            Ruth enjoyed the adventure of living in several communities in the east and midwest, raising her sons and working as a respiratory therapist. She was an avid bird watcher, a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church USA, and created paintings in acrylics. After the death of her first husband, Wayne Wilcox, and her son, Greg Wilcox, in 2005, Ruth found new life when she married her second husband, William Janes, in 2007.

            She moved to the Highland Farms assisted living community in Black Mountain, where she enjoyed playing bridge and served as a deacon in the Black Mountain Presbyterian Church.

            In 2009, Ruth lost her youngest son, Keith Wilcox. She is a testament to resiliency and celebration of continuing life, and will be greatly missed.

            In addition to her parents, first husband and sons, Ruth was preceded in death by two sisters, Emily Foster and Helen Simpson; and two brothers, Arnold Garrison and Joe Garrison.

            Those left behind to cherish her memory are her loving husband, William “Bill” Janes; step son Marshall Janes (wife, Molly McMillan), step daughters; Amelia Janes (husband Paul Fetcho), Joanna Janes (Nick Medich), Rebecca Janes, Elizabeth White (husband Jim White), sister Fannie Westfall (husband Bob Westfall), brothers Lowell Garrison (wife Ruby), Ben Garrison (wife Judy) and Norman Garrison (wife Tabitha); and three step grandsons, Ethan Boehm (wife Maribel Egremy), Titus Wright and Marshall White.

            The family will announce a celebration of Ruth’s life service at a later date. Penland Family Funeral Home is honored to be caring for the Janes Family and assisting them with arrangements.
