Samuel Alexander Obituary

Samuel Troy Alexander, age 76 of Asheville, NC, went home to be with the Lord, on Sunday, August 21, 2022,  at the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville.

Sam was born on November 15, 1945, in Buncombe County, to the late Troy Glillio Alexander and Mattie Jo Gray Alexander.

He was a member of Skyland First Baptist Church and retired from his job as a CNA at Black Mountain Center in Black Mountain, NC. Samuel loved his country and served proudly in the United States Army during the Vietnam era.

Sam loved his Lord and Savior and was a faithful servant. With his wife by his side, he served  in the Al Jones Prison Ministry, assisting the inmates and their families. He was a faithful member of the American Legion Post 70 and served as Chaplain. He was also very active in Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 124.

Sam fell in love with Little League Baseball when he was a teenager. He coached Little League while still in high school and one of his players was Cal Ripken, Jr. He followed Cal’s career and was an avid Baltimore Orioles fan. Cal even sent him a letter of congratulations for being his coach!

Sam was a wonderful son, brother, husband, and uncle. He loved his family dearly and enjoyed studying his family genealogy. He was very proud of his family and stayed close to them always.

In addition to his parents, Sam is preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Ruth Abee; a niece, Diamond Elizabeth-Glee Alexander.
