Samuel David Craig, 89, of Asheville, NC, passed away Sunday, April 12, 2026, at Mission Hospital in Asheville, NC.
Sam was born on February 15, 1937, in Buncombe County, NC. He was the son of the late James and Minnie Craig.
He retired from Beacon Manufacturing and had served as a deacon at Victory Baptist Church. Of his many hobbies, he enjoyed fishing, camping, and church functions.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his spouse, Barbara Craig; grandchildren, Deborah Walker and Marsha Ball; siblings, Mary Craig, Ed Craig, Garland Craig, Granval Craig, and Leonard Craig.
Surviving are his daughter, Patricia Ball of Asheville, NC; grandchildren, David Ball of Candler, NC, and William Ball of Asheville, NC; great‑grandchild, James Walker; soon‑to‑be son‑in‑law, Richard Pack; canine companion, Sweetie Pie; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at Chestnut Hill Baptist Church, 1657 Old Fort Road, Fairview, NC 28730, with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Monday, April 20, 2026, from 6 – 8 PM in the chapel of Penland Family Funeral Home.
