Shirley Mae (Young) Presley

           On July 21st, 2020, Shirley Mae Young Presley, age 83, of Candler, gained her angel wings at the JFK Solace Center in Asheville. Shirley was born on June 20th, 1937 in Buncombe County. She was one of the eight children born to the late David Raymond Young and Minnie Lou Briggs Young. Shirley worked at the Taylor Corporation until she retired and was a member of Fairmont Baptist Church. She married the late Ronnie Ray Presley on November 29, 1969. Shirley was also preceded in death by two brothers, David Raymond Young Jr. and Arnold Young. She is survived by two sons, Raymond Joe (Melissa Pressley) of Candler with whom she resided with, and Richard Presley (Denise) of Reynolds; three grandchildren, Amy Presley, Bryan Roberts and Staci Roberts; all of Asheville; one great-grandchild, Emrys Roberts of Asheville; four brothers, Franklin Young (Jo Ann), Russell Young (Earlene), Donald Young (Elane) and Stanley Young (Dawn); all of North Carolina; one sister, Elizabeth Whiteside of South Carolina; and many nieces and nephews.

            A funeral service will be held at 2pm, Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at Faith Community Church. The family will be receiving friends from 1pm-2pm. Pastor Jerry Wicker will be officiating. Burial will be held at 11am, Friday, July 31st, 2020 at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain.
