On Monday, July 27, 2020, Shirley Boyd Tolley, loving wife, mother of two children and a granddaughter, passed away at the age of 58.
Shirley, born, November 17, 1961 in Madison County, later attended Clyde A. Erwin High School and soon thereafter moved to the Tampa Bay area of Florida for 28 years. There, with her husband Dennis and children, Keith and Sadie, she enjoyed her decision to be a stay at home mom and loved playing with her kids at the beach and other family activities. She had a great sense of humor, a huge smile that included everyone around her and she loved her family and friends.
After suffering a debilitating illness in 2007, she returned to her native Madison County in 2009 until her recent passing at the John F. Keever, Jr. Solace Center in Asheville, NC. The family would like to thank Solace for their compassionate care and Penland Family Funeral Home for their quiet support through difficult times in our family.
Shirley was outgoing, thoughtful, caring and easily made friends. She loved having friends and family visit her in the Sunshine State, but always admitted being a little homesick for her cool, blue mountains.
Shirley was preceded in death by her father, Dillard, and her mother, Wilma Austin Boyd of the Sandy Mush area of Madison County. She is survived by husband, Dennis Tolley, son, John Keith Tolley, daughter Sadie Elizabeth Tolley and granddaughter, Harlee Anne Gregory. She is also survived by her cousin, Peggy Tweed Roberts and lifelong friend, Susan Cunningham.
We have decided to come together for a celebration of Shirley’s life. This will be held in the near future due to current COVID 19 concerns. We will celebrate her life in our hearts and stories shared until then.
She will be truly missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to GBS /CIDP Foundation International for research and support of those with Guillaian-Barre and associated illnesses.
