Ted Junior Mathis

Ted Mathis, age 89, of Asheville, NC passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at Bear Mountain Nursing Facility in Asheville.

Ted was born on April 3, 1934 in Madison, Co., NC to the late Jackson Mathis and Sallie Worley Mathis.

He was the owner and operator of Mathis Gulf Gas Station located on Merrimon Ave. in Asheville for many years. After his retirement, he loved to play his guitar along with his brother Hugh at gatherings, public and private. His love for playing his guitar was instilled in him all of his life.

In addition to his parents, Ted was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara; two brothers, Lloyd and Hugh Mathis; two sisters, Carrie Morgan and Agnes Gardin; and a step son Roger Rector.

Those left behind to cherish his memory are his brother, James Mathis; step daughter Sandra Rector Waldroup (Ed); two granddaughters Sonya and Sabrina.
