Thelma Larry Obituary

Thelma Louise Larry, 98, of Asheville, North Carolina, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Mission Hospital. Formally of Cumberland, Maryland, she was residing with her daughter and son-in-law.

Born May 2, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Samuel W. Ware and Margaret L. Clites Ware. She was preceded in death by her husband, William H. Larry.

Thelma was a humble servant of the Lord. She attended Cumberland Bible Church where she taught children’s Sunday School. In keeping with her faith and caring nature, she opened her home to many missionaries, pastors, and choirs. Thelma and her husband, Bill, helped Cornerstone Baptist Church and Victory Independent Baptist Church for many years. She had a delightful sense of humor and her laughter was contagious. Above all, she loved her family with all her heart praying for them fervently, and always showed them how much she cared by putting them first before herself.

Mrs. Larry is survived by her children, Larry Whitacre (Barb) of Bedford, PA, Ray Whitacre (Trudy) of Cumberland, MD, Billie Day (Jim) of Asheville, NC, Galen Whitacre (Marjorie) of Hanover, PA, Daryle Whitacre (Mary Jo) of Grand Island, FL; step-sons, Pastor Randall Larry (Diann) of Keyser, WV, and Greg Larry of Cumberland, MD; and siblings, Howard Ware of Bedford, PA, Eva Heinrich of Cumberland, MD, and Patricia Stickel of Centreville, PA; 16 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren, and even one great great great-grandchild.

In addition to her parents and spouse, she is preceded in death by her siblings, Eleanor Smith, Robert Ware, Samuel Ware, Dora Mae Shipley, and Gerald Ware and step son, David Larry.

Her memorial service will be held at 1:30 PM on Sunday, November 17, 2024, at Cumberland Bible Church, 400 East Third St., Cumberland, MD with Pastor and Missionary Bill Miller officiating.

A private interment will be in Maryland Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap.
