William George Howell, 75, of Black Mountain, NC, went to meet the Lord on July 1, 2025. A Georgia native by birth, as he was born in Louisville, GA, on July 20, 1949. He was a heavy machine operator for years and retired from Thiele Kadin in Georgia. He moved to Black Mountain in 2010 and was active in the American Legion Post 7,0, and was very active in the First Baptist Church in Black Mountain. He served in the Vietnam War. As a proud Marine, he received a Purple Heart and several other awards and medals. Mr. Howell was preceded in death by his parents, Cleone J. Howell and Louise Durham, and a brother, John L. Howell. He is survived by a sister, Joan Cosby of Georgia; brother, Terry Howell of Georgia; children, Madison (Kristen) Bentley, Dorothy L. Howell, and Michael (Missy) Howell; and grandchildren, D.J. Bentley, Matthew Hesson, Anastasia Hesson, Austin Howell, Alexis Howell, and Logan Howell. A visitation will be held on Monday, July 7, 2025 from noon to 1:30 PM in the chapel of Penland Family Funeral Home followed by a funeral service held on the same day at 2:00 PM in the chapel of the Western Carolina State Veteran's Cemetery in Black Mountain, NC.
