Tommy and Susan, receive our prayers and sympathy at this part of life. My aunt Irene is and was deeply meaningful to me as I grew up. Living just down the street was a blessing. I remember house and dog sitting for Uncle Richard and Aunt Irene on their occasional trips. I will miss the opportunity to see her on the front porch of that cabin at Pomme de Terre. So sorry we could not make it for the farewell.
Love to you All

We are in for a very bad storm and will not likely be able to attend services for Aunt Irene but I did want to let you know our thoughts and prayers are with you and the family there during this time of loss

Most of my adult life I have been known as a tease.  Growing up in the Rooks clan I actually had plenty of tutoring  and  opportunity to practice this most useful trait.  One of the best practitioners was my uncle Richard.  He found ways especially torturous and saved them up for just the right occasion.  On one of those occasions he visited our house in  Claycomo to show off a motorcycle he had gotten.  It was three wheeler like the ones in common use by the Kansas City police at that time.  It had a “kick” starter and as I was admiring it he offered me the opportunity to try to start it.  He was full aware of the potential for calamity as I was about 12 and all of 90 pounds soaking wet.  He was full of encouragement and smiled that knowing smile at my dad who was equally about to enjoy the joke.  I kicked my best kick and that old Harley kicked back which sent me over the handle bars and into the cinders we had for a driveway. My juvenile pride was the only casualty and uncle did later show me how to do it properly.
Being the wife of any Rooks takes a special kind of women.  I often wondered how uncle had found just the right one to put up with his seasons of orneriness.  At times he was like Chewbacca with a toothache and she knew exactly how to  handle it so around and around they would go to the delight of all present.  It is hard to imagine she has waited all these years to reunite.  You would have thought the great theater created by these two was all there was to it but being around them as family revealed another side - one of great love and concern for each other and their extended family.  My own children (James and Julie) benefited greatly from the brief encounters they had while attending college near their home. They can attest to all the elements stated herein and  would add their own anecdotal comments about their faith and hospitality.  I know it is an over used phrase but that sweet lady I knew as Aunt Irene was truly one of a kind.  Thanks to Tom and Susan, a one of a kind daughter and son in law, for all the years of faithful care and concern  in looking after this great lady.
